RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit deployed to Mackenzie following a weapons report

MACKENZIE – On Sunday morning at 1:30 am (March 6), Mackenzie RCMP, alerted to a report of shots fired, immediately responded to a residence in the 1000 Block of Mackenzie Boulevard in the community.

At the residence, police discovered that someone had fired multiple shots from a long gun into the home floor, causing one person to flee the home.

Mackenzie RCMP set up containment at the residence and called for the assistance of the Emergency Response Team. Due to the risk of firearms involved.

When ERT arrived from Prince George, entry was made to the residence, and a search was conducted to determine if anyone was inside.

During the search, police found what appeared to be an explosive device and immediately called the Explosives Disposal Unit to the scene. EDU attended and was able to collect and disarm the device safely. No one was injured.

After obtaining a search warrant, police located ammunition, various weapons, some prohibited and suspected drugs.

“We have identified a possible suspect and continue our efforts to locate him,” said Sgt Jayson Davidson NCO I/c Mackenzie RCMP Detachment. The people involved in this are known to each other. Police believe this to be targeted and don’t feel any more significant risk to the public.
