Problematic opening period sets up Blazers win over Cougars
PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Cougars (22-36-2-1) had their two-game win streak halted on Wednesday, after falling to the Kamloops Blazers 8-2 at the Sandman Centre.
The start was problematic for Prince George, as the Blazers scored five first period goals on 15 shots, as they stormed out to a 5-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Logan Stankoven led the way for the Blazers, as he finished with a game-high four points (2G-2A) and was named the first star. Six different Blazers scored in the win for Kamloops, as Stankoven and Caedan Bankier each had a pair of goals.
Koehn Ziemmer had a goal and an assist and seven shots on net. Ziemmer’s goal was his 30thof the season. Riley Heidt also found the back of the net as he and Ziemmer both scored in the middle frame. Keaton Dowhaniuk had two assists, was a plus one, and had registered nine hits.
