NORTHERN B.C. — The British Columbia Electoral Boundaries Commission will visit a number of communities in northern B.C. on Monday (May 9) and Tuesday (May 10) so residents can provide feedback on upcoming changes to provincial electoral boundaries.

The commission will be at the Ramada Plaza by Wyndham in Prince George on Monday at 11:30 a.m. and the Nechako Senior Friendship Centre in Vanderhoof at 3:30 p.m. Then, the commission will be at the George Dawson Inn in Dawson Creek at 7:30 p.m. and again on Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. They’ll finish off the northern B.C. tour in Dease Lake at the Recreation Centre at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The full details around the feedback sessions can be found on the commission’s website.

“This is a very important process and the Commission needs to hear from people who live in our community and region,” said Shirley Bond, MLA for Prince George-Valemount in a tweet.

The commission will finish collecting feedback this month and prepare their report for October. They can recommend adding up to six more provincial seats for a total of up to 93 electoral districts.

The population of northern B.C. is sparse. All electoral districts north of Kamloops have well below the average population of the more densely populated southern regions of the province.
