Timberwolves add speed to WSOC lineup

Rattee stands five-foot-five, but plays with tremendous pace and competitiveness, allowing her to put pressure on defenders and influence every game. Sedgwick initially saw his newest recruit on tape before seeing a number of TOFC games in person and recognizing Rattee has the intangibles to have a tremendous impact on the Timberwolves.

“I am truly thrilled to welcome Kate Rattee to our program. Kate is an exciting prospect and I look forward to working with her in training. There is a defining quality in her play that will allow her to learn and grow. With strong attackers around her to learn from, and with her desire for grow, we feel this is a great environment for her. She is a really strong and promising addition to the program.”

The 18-year-old spoke to TOFC coach Kai Tolpinrud about her potential fit with Sedgwick and within the Timberwolves program and believes UNBC’s approach to training and culture is ideal for her.

“The Timberwolves team seems so welcoming, and the girls seem really nice. I have heard a lot of great things from other coaches about Neil. I like the style of his coaching, just having met him a couple of times. I like that he likes to grow and develop with the players.”

Primarily a winger, Rattee has the vision and willingness to play a number of positions on the pitch. The Grade 12 Valleyview Secondary School student knows the jump to Canada West will be a step up in quality, but she is ready for the challenge.

“I feel I have good speed and I can beat people to the ball. I have good crosses and I don’t score the prettiest goals, but I like to score the sneaky goals. It’ll be really good to improve with older girls who really know what they’re doing. It will make me such a better player. I am happy I am going to be in an environment where everyone is showing up and putting in all their effort. That is going to make me put in all my effort and work even harder. I like that it is going to be so much more competitive than the level I am at now.”

Set to graduate from VSS in June, the honour roll student will enrol in UNBC’s Bachelor of Arts program this fall. Rattee will join her new teammates for training camp in August, and continue a soccer journey that began when she was five years old.

“I am super excited. I just want to put it all out there right off the bat, and I can’t wait to get started. I love soccer. I have had some really amazing experiences with the sport, and I am a very competitive person. I love being part of a team. Soccer has all that for me. It is my favourite thing to do.”
