Food prices continue to rise as Inflation expected to rise over 8% next week
PRINCE GEORGE– A couple of years ago prices of produce, meat, and other food were manageable. However, with inflation officially expected to rise over 8 per cent in the coming weeks those prices are rare to come by anymore. But inflation isn’t the only factor causing your high grocery bill. Global warming, the war between Russia and Ukraine as well as a global pandemic limiting the supply chain are some other reasons your bill might look higher than usual.
UNBC Professor Dr. Annie Booth says this won’t be a short-term solution with low prices and food production peaking a couple of years ago. She says it’s something that people will have to adapt to in order to save money and possibly change their diet to send prices down. Like eating less meat and choosing foods in season.
It not only affects many residents but also non-profits like the Salvation Army which relies heavily on food for their food ban and has seen an uptick in traffic
