PRINCE GEORGE– The Spruce King’s season ended in disappointment last year getting bounced from the playoffs in 4 games at the hands of the Penticton Vees. Fast Forward and the team will be looking to bounce back this year with their first game against Coquitlam just days away.

“The start of the season is definitely really important. Just to set the tone for the whole season. Exhibition, we didn’t get the results we wanted, but at the end of the day, those games don’t matter and we have to be ready for the ones that do matter.” – Colton Cameron

Head Coach Alex Evin had his team running powerplay drills to end the practice. Something the team will look to improve on finishing 6th in the division last year after getting off to a hot start.

“I think last year our power play was number one for the first month or something like that. So it’s important to get off to a good start, while PKs around the league are still kind of figuring their stuff out and they’re not exactly a tight unit as they would be near the end of the year” – John Herrington

Something the team will look to repeat this year is their defensive play. The Spruce Kings finished 2nd in the league for Goals Against with 129. Defenseman Colton Cameron says it’s an important part of their game.

“We can score a lot of goals, but at the end of the day, we’ve got to keep the puck out of the net. That’s how we win games and that’s how we got to success last year and hopefully, we can continue it this year.” – Colton Cameron

With a new year comes new expectations. Well not necessarily because this team will have the same expectations as last year, contend for a championship.
