PRINCE GEORGE – The Board for the College of New Caledonia got an update on both student enrolment and a budget.CNC President Dennis Johnson told the Board that enrolment numbers are returning to normal, pre-pandemic levels. Domestic numbers, though “are flat” as the college is competing with “a hot economy.” International student numbers are increasing, however, he says there are still challenges with getting student visas.

A report from Finance and Audit indicated a $4.2 million deficit to the end of August. However, Johnson says that is typically the tradition for the college when there are no revenues coming but the expenses of things like wages continue.

“Even from the summer to now, things have actually changed,” he says. “Because we’ve tuition revenue from the start of the new semester. The cafeteria is starting to take money in, parking fees, etc.”

However, he notes the college is anticipating a deficit, albeit much smaller.
