Local rancher fosters purity of Black Angus

PRINCE GEORGE – A local rancher built a business around developing the Black Angus. One of his goals is to protect the purity of the breed.

Rancher Tom Dewaal is a local cattle seed farmer who began investing in Black Angus breeds twenty years ago. Each day he looks at how he can develop a breed that becomes one of the most popular meats on the market.

The responsibility of a cattle seed stock farm is documenting and maintaining the genetics of hundreds of cattle.

According to Dewaal, Black Angus is the preferred beef for the dinner table but is also a good fit for the northern climate.

Harvest Angus had its annual auction this month, where buyers from around the country participated.

The Black Angus is bred to survive harsh winters. It’s known for easy temperament, fast growth and known for easy calving.
