Nomination period for SD57 by-election opens today

PRINCE GEORGE — The nomination period for next month’s School District 57 by-election has opened.

Two seats on the board of trustees are vacant after former trustees Betty Bekkering and Gillian Burnett resigned in March. Those wanting to throw their hat in the race have until May 12 to file their papers.

Nominations will be received by the Chief Election office or Deputy Chief Election Officer by appointment from 9 am today to 4 pm on Friday, May 12, 2023.

Nomination documents are available on the district’s website www.sd57.bc.ca or can also be picked up in person at the board office at 2100 Ferry Avenue from Monday to Friday, 9 am to 4 pm.

The qualifications for office include:

  • Holding Canadian citizenship
  • 18 years of age or older on general voting day Saturday, June 17, 2023
  • resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed; and
  • not disqualified under the School Act or any other enactment from being nominated for being elected to or holding the office, or be otherwise disqualified by law.
