Rustad introduces petition from citizens opposed to Bill 36
VICTORIA — Conservative Party of B.C. leader and Nechako Lakes MLA John Rustad held a press conference outside the legislature in Victoria today introducing a petition regarding Bill 36.
Bill 36 is titled the “Health Professions and Occupations Act” and it expands the regulation of health service providers and streamlines the process for designating new health professions and occupations. Rustad presented a petition to repeal Bill 36 and in a statement, he says that healthcare workers allege that Bill 36 is “politicizing professional and health boards by replacing positions which are currently elected by healthcare workers with government appointments.”
“This same NDP government hailed healthcare workers as heroes during the COVID-19 pandemic – now government is saying healthcare workers can’t be trusted to govern their own professions.” – John Rustad, MLA for Nechako Lakes, Leader of the Conservative Party of B.C.
Over 15,000 people have signed the petition and Rustad says it is shameful that “healthcare workers can’t be trusted to govern their own professions” and calls for the BC NDP to stand down.
