PRINCE GEORGE- artificial intelligence Has become prominent in all walks of life, and education is no exception.

Dr Sarah Elaine Eaton, an associate professor with the University of Calgary is diving into the topic of AI with their latest research project focused on academic integrity.

Chat GPT is an artificial intelligence that can be opened on your computers, laptop and even mobile devices that everyone can use with ease. One local instructor says it’s becoming all too common in classrooms.

“I noticed it a little bit last semester, but this semester it’s been a massive influx of cheating using artificial intelligence,” said Sheldon Clare.

That’s the question, is using AI to write an essay Cheating, Clare says yes.

“What we’re trying to teach at the post-secondary level is to build critical thinking skills,” said the instructor. ” We’re trying to make sure that people are able to develop those attributes which allow them to look at problems and think about them and solve them on their own. Not just hitting a button on a computer and having that solution procured for you.”

Dr. Eaton agreed that AI can be used for cheating, but also says there could be a Use for Ai In all levels of education.

“There are lots of people who have great mathematical skills, creative skills, technical skills, and they might not just be great writers. We wanted to look at how this tech can help students who might struggle with their writing for any variety of reasons,” said Dr. Eaton.
