Tourism industry ready to bounce back this summer

PRINCE GEORGE- Patios are full, and trees are blowing in the wind. That must mean summer has arrived, and with that, so are people.

According to the World Travel and Tourism Council, the summer of 2023 is expected to be the bounce back of the tourism industry in a post-pandemic world. Good news for the City of Prince George.

“It really has an impact, not just with hotels and restaurants, but with all the shops here as well. It’s exciting to see,” said City Councillor, Garth Frizzell.

Pre-pandemic, Prince George boomed in the summer months with what Tourism Prince George calls rubber traffic. Travellers from the lower mainland or even south of the border who would stop into the northern capital for a few days on their way north to Alaska, and despite inflationary costs, the hope is that can return this summer.

Despite inflation and other factors, Tourism in Prince George has grown substantially in the past decade. Councilor Garth Frizzell says it shows when you visit.

“With the construction that we’ve seen here, people want to come to Prince George,” said Frizzell. “It’s a city like really none other.”
