Local cyclists raise money for cancer

PRINCE GEORGE — Every year, The Wheelin’ Warriors of the North team goes on a two-day bike ride to raise money for cancer. They call it the Tour de Cure and it is B.C.’s largest cycling fundraiser, powering leading cancer care innovation across the province through the BC Cancer Foundation. This year, it will be happening on August 26 and 27.

Ron Gallo, Co-Captain of Wheelin’ Warriors of the North, explains there is a lot of training involved and encourages everyone to participate.

“”I get to ride because I can. You don’t have to be an elite cyclist. You don’t have to be a racer. You just need to be able to balance yourself on a bike and go for a ride,” he said.

However, for those who simply can’t ride, there are still other ways to help the cause, such as becoming an honourary rider.

“All you have to do is make your $200 donation to one of the riders. You don’t have to ride. And then you get a wristband and you get to wear this on the day of the ride when we’re in in the Lower Mainland area or any time that you want to wear it,” Gallo explained.

Another way to support the Wheelin’ Warriors is by purchasing a ticket to the Free Wheelin’ Gala that is happening on May 27. More information can be found at their Facebook page.
