Prince George Regional Highway Rescue: Seeking Volunteers to Save Lives on the Roads

Jun 30, 2023 | 3:34 PM

PRINCE GEORGE – As the long week approaches, many people hit the road to reach their favourite destinations. While some choose to travel, local rescue volunteer group members stay home, prepared to respond to vehicle accidents. Prince George Regional Highway Rescue is actively seeking additional volunteers to join their team.

Long weekends are one of the busiest times for Prince George Regional Highway Rescue. The team diligently checks and rechecks their specialized equipment days before such weekends, ensuring everything works properly.

In addition to responding to highway accidents, the team also handles incidents on forest service roads. They devote at least one day a week to training and practicing for unforeseen circumstances.

Their unique skill set becomes crucial when someone is possibly trapped inside a wrecked vehicle. The team specializes in using the jaws-of-life technique and handling crashes in remote areas that local fire departments do not cover. Currently, they are actively seeking more volunteers to strengthen their efforts.

The highway rescue operations receive support through grants provided by the province, allowing the team to remain active and prepared. Since 1981, the Society has been serving the community. Those interested in joining the group dedicated to the region for over four decades can find further information on the Prince George Regional Highway Rescue Society website.
