Ground breaks on new REAPS garden

Jul 27, 2023 | 10:58 AM

PRINCE GEORGE — On Wednesday afternoon, REAPS celebrated the groundbreaking on their new community garden.

REAPS, The Recycling and Environmental Action Planning Society, is on the move. They will soon have a new home, moving from Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park up to UNBC. The new space will extend REAPS outreach and delivery of environmental programs to the community, businesses and institutions.

REAPS was established with the mandate of fostering environmental stewardship in the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George and for over 30 years they have raised community awareness on the importance of the seven Rs, reduce, reuse, recycle, rethink, refuse, repair, regift. They are only in phase one of the project, but lots of work has already been completed.

“We had the groundbreaking. We’ve had the fence installed, perimeter beds put in some of our previous materials brought up, and we’re in the process of getting water and electricity in here and our buildings moved. Everything is on due process, right. And it’s always funding, permitting.” – Terri McClymont, Executive Director, REAPS
