PG RCMP launch new webpage

PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George RCMP has unveiled a new section on their website, allowing for the public to potentially identify individuals involved in certain crimes.

A new section of their website is titled “Can You Identify These Individuals?” and the hope is that the public will be able to identify individuals connected to certain crimes. Any investigation where police are looking for assistance from the public to identify a person or vehicle will be available for viewing on the new webpage.

“It is a space where we are going to be housing still photos from video surveillance that has been provided to us in the hopes that we can get the public to help us identify the suspects in a variety of different crimes. A lot of them will be shoplift suspects from various retail businesses in Prince George, but it could also be mischief or assault suspects as well. So anywhere where we have photo from video surveillance that we need people to help us identify who is in the photo.” – Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer, Prince George RCMP

Cpl. Cooper says that there are a lot of crimes that need suspect identification, and this is one way that the public can help.

“So we’re hoping that it will draw people in to kind of take a look and see if they can recognize anyone in the photos. There are definitely a lot of crimes that we need help identifying the suspect and in order to make any forward movement in the investigation.” – Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer, Prince George RCMP

Opposition Critic for Public Safety Mike Morris thinks that this will be a good tool for the RCMP to have.

“You can’t do your investigations without the help of the public. And the police are only as good as the information they get from the public as well … I applaud the RCMP for doing this. They need to use absolutely every tool that they can in order to catch the perpetrators of some of these very heinous crimes that we have out there. So I applaud them for this, and I hope it works.” – Mike Morris, Opposition Critic for Public Safety, Solicitor General (BCU)

Morris also says that information that comes in from the public, may be the one thing that the police need in order to file an arrest warrant and catch the suspect.

“So any kind of a tip that can come into the police through social media, through anonymous phone calls or any kind of input like that is valuable information. And it might be the last piece of information that they need to complete a file to get an arrest warrant to go out and arrest the individuals involved.” – Mike Morris, Opposition Critic for Public Safety, Solicitor General (BCU)

The link to the new section can be found HERE and if you have any information, you can contact Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300. If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Northern B.C. Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
