PRINCE GEORGE – There are calendars with animals in it, firefighters, or even scenery, but one local artist, Rick Mintz, has made a calendar full of his artwork and it all goes to a good cause.

“I’ve learned a fair bit about the Children’s Hospital and learned that over 4000 kids from Northern Health go to the hospital every year, most of them make multiple visits. So, I decided to use my artwork and make a calendar to support the hospital.”

– Rick Mintz, Local Artist

Mintz worked with Prince George’s Community for Kids which held an annual golf tournament to raise funds for the BC Children Hospital Foundation, but between covid and the lack of volunteers, the fundraiser fell through. That’s when Mintz’s calendar came about and ever since he started, it’s been a really big success.

“I’ve sold 916 calendars, and in the four years that I’ve done it so far, I raised nearly $10,000.”

The future of this calendar still looks bright for Mintz.

“Well, I think I’ll just keep doing it every year. I’m already trying to think of a theme for next year. Then I have to get painting. It takes me pretty much 12 months to get the 12 pictures done.”

The calendars are only 20$ and are available at Studio 2880 and Omineca Art Centre. Mintz is also happy to mail them out. He can be reached at rmintz@shaw.ca or www.ramart.ca
