A dip in October unemployment numbers for Prince George
PRINCE GEORGE- Employment rose in the education and construction sectors, but took a hit in the health care and retail sectors last month in the Prince George region, with our unemployment rate down to 6.3 percent, from 7.2 percent in September.
This time last year however, we were sitting prettier with an unemployment rate of 3.9 percent. No change in B.C.’s overall unemployment rate at 5.4 percent once again last month .
The national jobless rate rose to 5.7 per cent in October due to fewer job opportunities in an economy weighed down by high interest rates.
Statistics Canada reports the economy added a modest 18,000 jobs, which was not enough to keep the unemployment rate from rising.
