PRINCE GEORGE— The City of Prince George has announced they will be closing the intersection of Fifth Ave. and Ospika Blvd. tomorrow November 29 due to a water system valve replacement.

The Utility Operations division will be excavating the northbound lane and all traffic from the intersection will be detoured around. However, southbound traffic, heading down Ospika towards 15th Ave., will be open.

There will be two detour routes:

  • Northbound traffic from Ospika Blvd. S: Turn west onto Fifth Ave., north on Brigade Dr., and east on Pioneer Ave. to continue onto Ospika Blvd. N.
  • Motorists wishing to turn right onto Ospika from Fifth Ave.: Use Ruggles St. and turn west on 3rd Ave. to continue onto Ospika Blvd. N.

The detour is expected to be in place from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The water system valve was installed in 1962 and is currently leaking. The leaking is cause ice buildup and slippery conditions at the intersection, which is why the urgent replacement work is taking place.

There will be no pedestrian access to the northside intersection crossing during construction. The City is asking residents to exercise caution around the work zone and pay attention to signage to signage and directions from the construction crew.
