RCMP’s street crew seized 13 kilos of drugs and $1.5 million in stolen goods this year
PRINCE GEORGE— It has been a busy year for the Street Crew unit with the removal of Nine kilos of methamphetamine, two kilograms of fentanyl and two kilograms of cocaine, several firearms, body armour, nearly $100,000 in cash and several vehicles from the streets of Prince George.
One investigation led the team to take enforcement action against a Lower Mainland crime group, active in the B.C. gang conflict. Through this action the unit effectively suppressed an illicit drug supply line coming into Prince George. Charges have been forwarded against nine major drug targets, as well as dozens of lower level targets, which police believe will lead to significant sentences if successful.
Sergeant Morris notes that when it comes to the trade of illicit drugs a common trend being observed. Gangs are using short-term rental units to set up drug operations, and police encourage the proprietors of short-term rentals to be vigilant.
Additionally, the Street Crew unit is proactively targeting individuals involved in auto theft and property crime. In 2023, over $1.5 million in stolen goods was recovered and returned to their owners. This includes cars, trucks, ATVs, electronics, and a wake boat. A number of prolific offenders have been arrested by the unit and investigations forwarded to the courts.
