Cougars comeback versus Oil Kings falls short

PRINCE GEORGE — The Edmonton Oil Kings defeated the Prince George Cougars 6-4 Wednesday night before 4,528 fans at CN Centre.

The Cats made things difficult for themselves, falling behind 4-0 after the first period. Oil Kings forward Ty Nash scored a hat-trick in the period to help stake his team out to the big lead.

The Cougars replied with two goals in the second period – Matteo Danis scoring first at the 9:42 mark of the period, then Riley Heidt at the 18:27 mark.

Early in the third period Edmonton took a 5-2 lead before Aiden Foster and Oren Shtrom scored to help the Cats claw back to within one goal.

But it wasn’t meant to be as Edmonton Oil King Adam Jecho added an empty netter at 18:52 to seal the win.

The Cougars outshot their opponents 28-25 with Joshua Ravensbergen pulled after the first period. Ty Young finished the game.

Edmonton went 3-4 on the powerplay while Prince George were 1-3. With the loss, Prince George now has a 24-10 record while Edmonton, the last place team in the Eastern Conference, improved to 10-20-0-1.

The Cougars are back on the ice Thursday night when they host the Calgary Hitmen. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
