90-year-old weather record falls in Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE — A close to 90-year-old weather record was broken in Prince George on Wednesday.

Environment and Climate Change Canada says the warm weather has broken dozens of weather records all week province-wide including in Prince George on Wednesday, when we hit 13.2 degrees. That beat the previous high of 11.7 degrees set in 1935. It’s also the warmest January day in Prince George ever recorded.

“We’ve had a fairly unusual weather pattern impacting the province of B.C. We’ve essentially had a series of storms that have come up from the south giving heavy rainfall to the coast but then a really mild airmass to the interior, that’s why we’re seeing daytime temperature records set,” says Environment Canada warning preparedness meteorologist Lisa Erven.

But spring isn’t here quite yet, with seasonal highs and lows expected by the weekend. For example on Saturday, a high of minus 2 is expected with an overnight low of minus 12.
