PRINCE GEORGE—If you’re looking for plans this Family Day the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club will be hosting their inaugural B.C. Families and Lheildi T’enneh day.

The goal of the event is to bring together the entire community of Prince George to enjoy a day of cross country skiing. Additionally, the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club will give a Respectful Acknowledgement pledge as they recognize the ancestral land on which they live, work and play.

“We’re really excited and really honored to be part part of this partnership. What’s happening on Monday is a celebration and it’s about community, it’s about family, it’s about inclusiveness, it’s about awareness, It’s about coming out and having a nice day on on our our trails here,” Says Lance MacDonald, Past President of the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club.

There will be a pancake breakfast, a hot dog roast, ski lessons, and free trail passes all day.

“Reconnecting with each other is important. A long time ago in our early youth, we used to sit down with our elders at the smoke shacks, we call it a ‘slenya’ and do our fishing and just reconnect with our elders in that sense,” says Phyllis Seymour, President of the Lheidli T’enneh elder society. “So it’s important for us to to reconnect with each other as a community.”

The event will begin at 8:00 a.m. with the Respectful Acknowledgment pledge happening at 11:00 a.m.
