Funk scores 50 as Cougars blow out Blazers 7-1

PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Cougars blew out the Kamloops Blazers 7-1 at CN Centre Friday (Feb. 16).

The Blazers did open the scoring, but Zac Funk scored goal No. 50 by deflecting a pass from Hudson Thornton to tie the game 1-1.

After that, it was all Cougats. Prince George scored six straight goals – including five in the second period – en route to the 7-1 win. The Cougars outshot the Blazers 35-13 over the final two periods.

The Cougars improve to 36-15-0-2 on the 2023-24 Western Hockey League (WHL) season, good for 74 points in 52 games. Prince George sits first in the WHL B.C. Division and second in the Western Conference having won four straight games.

The Cougars hit the road Saturday (Feb. 17) for a rematch against the Blazers in Kamloops. The Cats return home Family Day Monday (Feb. 19) to welcome the Seattle Thunderbirds for a 3 p.m. game.
