VICTORIA — The Prince George Cougars gave up five unanswered goals in a 5-3 defeat to the Victoria Royals Friday (Feb. 21) night.

The Royals took another step towards the BC Division title as they now have a seven point lead over the Cougars, though Prince George has played 55 games to Victoria’s 57.

Terik Parascak opened the scoring for the Cougars in the first period, though Caleb Matthews’ tied things up at 1-1 with less than three minutes to go in the period.

From there, it was all Victoria as they scored two in the second – courtesy Justin Kipkie and Hayden Moore – while Brandon Lisowsky and Cosmo Wilson added a pair in the third as the Royals led 5-1 at the Save on Foods Memorial Centre.

Aiden Foster and Viliam Kmec brought the Cougars back into the game with goals at 11:21 and 14:45 of the third, but it was all the visitors could manage despite sustained pressure on the net of Johnny Hicks.

Hicks finished with 24 saves on 27 shots, while Joshua Ravensbergen turned aside 31 of 36 shots in a losing effort.

The Cougars will get a chance at revenge Saturday as the two teams will rematch at 6:05 p.m.

Their next home game is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 25, against the Kelowna Rockets at the CN Centre.
