PRINCE GEORGE – Along the shores of Fraser Lake, two Indigenous communities coexist, with the Village of Fraser Lake serving as a bridge between them. On Friday morning, an exciting partnership announcement was made to develop a hotel, aiming to spark economic growth in the surrounding area.

Just off of Highway 16, community members from Stellat’en, Nadleh Whuten, and the Village of Fraser Lake gathered to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day. During this occasion, the Chief of Stellat’en unveiled an exciting new hotel that will be built along Highway 16 in the Village of Fraser Lake.

“ We plan to build a new hotel within Fraser Lake. We’ve acquired 5.6 acres of land from the village, and in collaboration and cooperation with the village. “

Mayor Sarrah Storey of the Village of Fraser Lake said a project like this is great news for the surrounding community.

“We’ll be able to put on more curling competitions and more baseball tournaments and more hockey tournaments, and that’s a huge one for us.”

In recent years, job openings in the industry sector have declined significantly. Meanwhile, the Stellat’en First Nation is leading the way in building a new hotel, with plans to kick off construction next spring.
