PRINCE GEORGE – It’s currently plus 24 outside but you wouldn’t know that inside Kopar Arena where hockey season preparation is currently underway. The annual Spruce Kings summer hockey camps are in full swing as kids from ages 6 -17 hone there craft on and off the ice. Spruce Kings executive director of business operations Kyle Anderson says the three weeks of camps continue to attract youth players looking to develop as it grows year by year.

“We’ve been doing this for many years. It’s been a staple in this community for a long time and the Spruce Kings are really happy to put this on every single year. This is our second week here and it’s been really well received so far again this week. We’re, looking forward to developing more youth hockey players as we move through these weeks.” says Anderson.

The camp features instruction from many experienced players and coaches including Brad Tesink, Brandon Manning and many current Spruce Kings players. Anderson says he has noticed some kids returning for a second week to receive more instruction and spoke about watching many of these athletes start as young players and work there way up over the years.

“As you see some of our other groups are heading to do some activities here before they head back on the ice but, you know, we also saw a lot of new faces this year as well. It’s a really cool thing I’ve been here eight years now and we have some of those kids that were in the youngest age groups when they first started coming to our hockey schools, and now they’re signing up for our prospects camps to try to make the team. It’s a pretty cool trajectory when you spend a lot of time here and it’s kind of cool to see those kids grow from year to year.” says Anderson.

Over the course of three weeks the fifteen camps will host over 270 kids.
