PRINCE GEORGE — Artemis Gold has announced plans to upgrade the current Blackwater Mine processing plant, increasing capacity by 33 per cent.

The company estimates that the expansion will be completed at a capital cost of $100 to $110 million dollars and will include the addition of a vertical mill, the expansion and upgrades to the oxygen supply system and the addition of oxygen shear reactors along with the addition of two storage ponds for fresh water and recycled process water near the plant site for better operational flexibility.

We asked Director of Communications and Community Relations at Artemis Gold Crystal Sharwood if the expansion would mean more jobs for the region.

“So, I don’t have exact numbers in terms of employment right now but it is an additional spend of about $100 million and we’ve been generally very focused on regional employment and regional contracting so I would say any expansion of the mine should be positive news for the region.”
