Prince George women and children unite for 34th annual Take Back the Night March

PRINCE GEORGE – This Friday, September 19th, the streets of Prince George will once again echo with the voices of courage and solidarity as women and children come together for the 34th annual Take Back the Night March.

Marching through the streets at night is a time-honoured tradition that began nearly 50 years ago in Europe during the 1970s and has since spread worldwide, including to Prince George in 1992. Organizers emphasize the urgent need to end violence against women and promote safety in our communities.

As the marchers proceed, they will take a moment of silence at the courthouse, honouring those lost to violence before continuing their journey. This march is specifically for women and children, underscoring the message that everyone deserves to feel safe while walking the streets at night.

Take Back the Night Committee Chair

This annual event honours the lives of women who have suffered violence, celebrates the resilience of survivors, and advocates for a future free from abuse. It’s a vital opportunity for the community to raise their voices against the ongoing impact of violence on women and children.

The event kicks off on Friday, September 19th, at 6:30 p.m. at Canada Games Plaza, featuring speakers before women and children head out together for the march at 7:00 p.m.
