PRINCE GEORGE — Opens Waters Solar was the winner of this year’s Northern Angel Summit Finale Thursday night in Prince George at the Conference and Civic Centre.

They were presented with a $100,000 investment from Kelli Moorhead of Pattison Media, one of the event’s main sponsors

Organizers say the winner was a clear favourite as those attending the event had voted on their choice during the evening and selected Open Waters Solar to also receive the People’s Choice Award.

Open Waters Solar is a Prince George based solar manufacturing company which has created a technology to encapsulate solar panels, making them durable for the rough handling of ocean-going sailing yachts. These stylish panels power yachts and replace the need for diesel generators which can ruin the calm enjoyment of sailing. With additional applications for powering drones, and other rugged environment vehicles, the opportunities for this technology seem boundless.

The highlight of the evening were the six regional entrepreneurs pitching their ventures live on stage. TreeTrack Intelligence, Trueleaf Petcare, Squiggly Greens, skiKrumb Trackers, and DesignTIME all presented with passion; however, it was Open Waters Solar which convinced these Angels that their business was best positioned to use their investment to stimulate innovation and economic resilience in the north. The $100,000 investment these Angels are making in their business will fuel their growth and contribute to the economic capacity of Northern BC.

Mary Mytting, Executive Director of Northern Innovation Network says, “This inaugural gathering of visionary investors, trailblazing entrepreneurs, and civic leaders who are committed to building an innovation-driven economy in Northern B.C. will return next year so if you are interested in angel investing or are looking for private equity funding for your new venture, talk with us now so we can help you prepare for the 2026 Northern Angel Summit.”
