Cougars remain perfect after come from behind over Chiefs in Spokane

SPOKANE, WA — And then there was one.

The Prince George Cougars are the only Western Hockey League team yet to suffer defeat. this season, as they came away with a 2-1 win over the Spokane Chiefs Friday (Oct. 3) night.

The Cougars are 3-0 this season, and they sit third in the Western Conference and second in B.C. Division, behind the 3-0-1 Victoria Royals.

Terik Parascak and Kooper Gizowski scored a goal each while Josh Ravensbergen earned his first win of the season with a 26-save performance for the Cougars.

Following a scoreless first period, it was the Chiefs who struck first through Sam Oremba at 12:37 of the second period. Parascak equalized on a breakaway at 18:10 of the period after he was found by captain Bauer Dumanski.

Gizowski, who was claimed off waivers from Lethbridge in June, extended his point streak as a Cougar to three games when he scored what turned out to be the game winner midway through the third period.

The 20-year-old Gizowski leads all Cougars skaters in points with six from three games.

Ravensbergen was named first star on the night as he turned aside 26 of 27 shots to pick up the win. Carter Esler stopped 35 of 37 shots in a losing effort for Spokane.

The Cougars will look to complete the weekend sweep when the two teams rematch at Spokane Veterans Arena at 6:00 p.m. this evening.
