Reminders for a fun and safe Halloween

PRINCE GEORGE — Trick or treaters are urged to wear bright clothing when going door to door Halloween night.

Prince George RCMP is also asking motorists to slow down and be ready for kids crossing at unexpected places. ICBC agrees.

“Halloween isn’t a typical night on our roads, and it’s important for everyone to be aware of the added risks, whether you’re behind the wheel or out walking,” said Kathleen Nadalin, ICBC road safety manager.

“We’re asking drivers to stay focused and avoid distractions, and for pedestrians to make sure they’re visible with flashlights or reflective gear. Let’s keep the night fun and safe for everyone.”

RCMP add if you’re going to a Halloween party, be sure that you have a backup plan in case you have too much to drink and cannot drive yourself home.

If you’re not careful while on the roads Halloween night, statistics from ICBC show there can be consequences:

  • An average of 152 people are injured in 517 crashes on Halloween in the Lower Mainland.
  • An average of 31 people are injured in 121 crashes on Halloween on Vancouver Island.
  • An average of 26 people are injured in 115 crashes on Halloween in the Southern Interior.
  • An average of 10 people are injured in 53 crashes Halloween in the North Central region.
