Only one week left to try and win million dollar home

PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society’s Dream Home Lottery is ending soon, but you still have time to buy a ticket for your chance to win the million dollar home.

“It’s got three bedrooms upstairs which are beautiful and large, and a huge walk in shower that you and all your friends could possibly join in on,” said the Society’s Executive Director Donna Flood.

“It has high ceilings so it really feels big and refreshing. And we have two balconie, I refer to them as the sunset and sunrise balconies so you can choose which view you want to have either in the morning or the evening. And all the furniture donated by Ashley Furniture is included, so you literally just have to pack your clothes and come,” she continued.

The draw will take place on December 3, but the deadline to buy tickets is December 1. Beyond the chance to win the home, Flood says buying a ticket is incredibly beneficial for the community, as all the proceeds go directly towards the Society’s programs.

“All of our programs, programs which we don’t charge anything for, rely on the community to support us so we can continue to do them, and the Dream Home Lottery is our biggest fundraiser,” she said

As of November 24 there are around 2600 tickets left. Flood explained the Society’s total budget is only 36% funded by the government, meaning the rest comes down to fundraising like this.

“It really is what allows us to meet the needs of our community, so we really need to have a sell out so that we can continue to provide the care we do,” Flood said.

“We created a program, a family grief program, where parents and children can learn to grieve together. And what it does is it creates a remarkable resiliency within the family for when things happen,” she continued, explaining one of many programs the Society offers.

The Society aims to help families as best they can in times of great stress through a wide variety of services and programs. Among them is a new children’s grief camp, which Flood explains is like a summer camp that also offers supports and a space to grieve, while also returning to normalcy.

“It lets them realize that they can have joy even though they are grieving and that they’re not alone in their grief. So it really does give them space to be with other children that are grieving, but also realize that there can be joy back in their lives,” she said.
