Planned power outage affecting over 2,600 hydro customers

PRINCE GEORGE — Update: BC Hydro says intermittent outages will continue early early this evening (Wednesday) but says the bulk of the repair work is complete.

The work was made necessary following a motor vehicle incident last week near 5th Avenue and Foothills Boulevard that damaged BC Hydro infrastructure.

Northern Community Relations Manager Bob Gammer says a few hundred customers lost power this morning and some more this afternoon – not the 2,655 estimated on BC Hydro’s website today.

He says that number was assuming that the system was in its normal configuration which he says was not.

Gammer notes BC Hydro plans to return to the same location a year from now to replace the switching infrastructure on site – which he referred to as obsolete.

Earlier: According to BC Hydro, they estimate power will be restored by noon today (Wednesday).

Earlier: A planned power outage in the Heritage neighbourhood in Prince George is affecting over 2,600 BC Hydro customers.

The power went off at approximately 7:45 am. on Wednesday (Jan.14) and is expected to stay off until 4 p.m. on Wednesday. A work crew is on site with work being conducted on BC Hydro equipment.

The outage has not affected D.P. Todd Secondary School. Check here for updates.
