PRINCE GEORGE – The UNBC Timberwolves women’s basketball team hits the court Saturday winless in their last five but getting back in the win column wont be the only things on the players mind. The 19th annual Shoot for the Cure is a longstanding tradition in Canadian university sport.

Over nearly two decades the campaign has raised over 2 million dollars in support of advancing breast cancer research and awareness.

Saturday night the Timberwolves will host the Fraser Valley Cascades at the Brownridge court and they will be wearing special pink cancer themed jerseys to commemorate the event. The jerseys have special meaning as it features the names of many of the friends and family who have battled the disease.

“The game is important for us because it brings the awareness to the people who have been affected by breast cancer. We have names on the jerseys and they’re representing the people who have fought and are still fighting cancer. These are people who are affected and they have an impact in our lives and supported us. Our way to support them is by wearing these jerseys,” said Timberwolves guard Viktoriia Filatova.
