TWolves fall to Thunderbirds to begin final road weekend of Canada West season

VANCOUVER — It was another tough outing for the UNBC basketball teams in Vancouver as they went up against the powerhouse UBC Thunderbirds in Canada West action Friday (Jan. 30) night.

The UNBC men dropped an 82-57 decision to UBC for their 13th loss in a row and 15th of the season. The 2-15 TWolves were led by a 12-point performance from Justin Sunga. Chris Ainsley (11), Isaiah Bias (10) and Wesley Ainu’u (10) also finished in double digits.

Bias led all UNBC players with seven rebounds.

Elsewhere, the UNBC women lost 81-48 at the War Memorial Gymnasium to sit at 1-16. They’ve lost their last nine games.

Viktoriia Filatova led the way for UNBC with a 20-point performance, while Aurora Cabrera grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Timberwolves will close out their 2025-26 Canada West road schedule in Vancouver this evening when they rematch against the Thunderbirds. They’ll wrap up the season next weekend with a pair of home games against the TRU WolfPack.
