Volunteers sought for Prince George RCMP’s Community Policing Unit

PRINCE GEORGE — The Community Policing Unit of the Prince George RCMP is looking for new volunteers.

It notes volunteer opportunities include the community policing front desk, restorative justice, victim services, as well as the ability to be Sgt. Safety Bear. More details about each opportunity are below:

  • Community Policing Front Desk – front line workers serving witness subpoenas, fielding inquiries and providing customer assistance.
  • Restorative Justice – work with youth and adult offenders, providing an effective alternative to the criminal justice system with a focus on accountability, problem solving and community healing.
  • Victim Services – provide emotional support for victims of crime or trauma; liaise between the victim, Court system, law enforcement and community agencies, providing helpful referral services.
  • Safety Bear – the goodwill ambassador and mascot of the Prince George RCMP, attends special events and citywide functions with a whimsical approach.

Prospective volunteers have to be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident at least 19-years of age with the ability to demonstrate good judgement. They need to also get an RCMP Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance and have a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and provide a Driver’s Abstract each year.
