No stage, no problem. Cedars drama gets creative with Wind in the Willows

PRINCE GEORGE – A local high school drama class is showing you don’t need a traditional theatre to pull off a big show. Students at Cedars Christian School are bringing the classic Wind in the Willows to life by getting creative with the space they have.

Cedars has a strong drama program but no dedicated stage, so every production comes with a few extra hurdles.

This year’s play includes many scene changes, all staged inside Lakewood Alliance Church, where students are rehearsing just days before opening night.

Instead of large sets moving on and off stage, the show uses projected images and rotating, three-sided prisms to suggest different locations. That means the cast has to lean more on their acting, movement, and imagination, and they say it’s actually made them better performers.

For some students, the biggest adjustment was finally working in a space they didn’t fully get to see until late in rehearsals.

With plenty of help from parents, volunteers, and a flexible cast, the production is nearly ready, proof that great storytelling isn’t about how big the stage is. Opening night is Friday, February 27th, with performances running through Sunday. Ticket cost: $10 and are available online in advance: https://cedars.bc.ca/drama/
