Spruce Kings prepare for the final stretch of the season

PRINCE GEORGE – To say the Prince George Spruce Kings are on a heater may be an understatement. The Kings are winners of 11 of their last 13 games and see them sitting at the top of the coastal east division as they continue to pick up steam heading into the final stretch of the season. On paper the team seems to be firing on all cylinders but behind the scenes the Kings coaching staff are fine tuning the squad to be better prepared for a difficult playoff road ahead.

” The team talked quite a bit after Friday’s game. Yes we were successful on the scoreboard but we were not happy with our details through the course of the 60 minutes. We could have done a lot of things in a better fashion and I thought they responded extremely well on Saturday. I thought we carried the play for the most part so for us it’s about playing the right way every night and not focusing so much on the end result on the scoreboard.” said Spruce Kings Head Coach Brad Tesink.

With the Spruce Kings sitting in first but tied on points with Coquitlam every point matters. The Kings own a home record of 14-6 and are taking advantage of the fact that teams have to travel a long distance to play here and a schedule that offers the Kings the ability to play teams twice in a row which prepares the team well for the playoffs ahead. Coach Tesink says there is nothing like playing at Kopar as the arena offers a home ice advantage that few others can top.

“We feed off our crowd. Obviously, there’s been very good crowds throughout the course of the season. As of late, they’ve been starting to ramp up a little bit more and that shows. Our guys feed off that energy on a nightly basis and we want to play for the fans that come out to support us every night, as well as the guys in our dressing room.” said Tesink.

With a playoff spot locked in the locker room is dialed in, making adjustments in practice and optimistic for a long grueling playoff run ahead.

“It’s really good. My boys are looking forward to a big playoff push this season and the energy is really, really high. ” said Spruce Kings forward Ryan Wachtel.

The Prince George Spruce Kings will kick off the home stretch of the season this weekend with a double header against Surrey at Kopar Memorial Arena with a 7pm start time Friday and a 6pm start time Saturday.
