CNC Faculty Association blasts administration for Fort St. James campus closure

FORT ST. JAMES — The College of New Caledonia’s Faculty Association (FACNC) says CNC is closing the door on Fort St. James and regional learners with the upcoming closure of the campus there.

“Although the college claims that it will maintain a presence in the community, it is difficult to see how this commitment can be upheld when doors are closed and employees have been laid off,” said the (FACNC).

“The College’s decision to close the Fort St. James campus is directly at odds with its mission to serve the communities in our region. There is a great deal happening in Fort St. James, the community is thriving, and the new Nats’oojeh Hospital and Health Centre opened last year.”

The FACNC adds that “the college has yet to meaningfully engage with affected unions or communities beyond providing notice of the closure or basic statutory requirements.”
