PORT ALBERNI, B.C. — The Alberni Valley Bulldogs scored three times in the second period en route to a 4-2 win over the Prince George Spruce Kings Saturday (March 14) night.

River Arnason opened the scoring for the Spruce Kings at the Alberni Valley Multiplex when he struck 5:35 into the opening frame. The Bulldogs bounced back at 18:24 of that period through Ryan Small to make it 1-1 after 20 minutes.

Eduard Mishikov and Jackson Lackas scored 97 seconds apart early in the second period before a power play goal from Lackas at 14:02 made it 4-1 Bulldogs.

Marcus Lougheed pulled the Spruce Kings back to within two with a power play goal at 16:49, but that was as close as Prince George could come.

Prince George’s Ryder Green stopped 27 of 31 shots in 57:45 of action. He was pulled for an extra attacker for the final 2:15 but the Spruce Kings couldn’t capitalize. Bulldogs netminder Derik Brouillard stopped 21 of 23 shots to record the win.

The Spruce Kings (31-16-3-0) are still eight points ahead in the BCHL’s Coastal East standings as both Chilliwack and Coquitlam lost last night to sit with identical 27-19-2-1 records. The Spruce Kings have 65 points from 50 games while the Chiefs and the Express have 57 points from 49 games.

Up next for the Spruce Kings is a pair of home games against the Express at Kopar Memorial Arena this Saturday and Sunday (March 21 and 22).
