Prince George RCMP investigating Monday fatal collision on Highway 97 at Woodpecker Landing
PRINCE GEORGE — Prince George RCMP is looking for witnesses, as they investigate a fatal collision that took place Monday evening on Highway 97.
On March 16, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Prince George RCMP frontline officers were dispatched to a serious collision on Highway 97 at Woodpecker Landing, south of Prince George. Initial reports indicated that a semi‑truck had jackknifed and collided with a pickup truck, resulting in serious injuries.
The passenger of the pickup truck, a 69‑year‑old woman from Quesnel, was declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck, a 77‑year‑old man from Quesnel, was transported to hospital with injuries. The semi‑truck driver, a 44‑year‑old man from Abbotsford, was not injured.
The investigation is ongoing, and speed and weather are believed to have been contributing factors in the collision. The Prince George Investigative Services Team is leading the investigation.
