PRINCE GEORGE — Prince George city staff are looking for a green light from council on Monday to seek $40,000 in grant funding to assist with emergency preparedness.

The motion will come to council during the regular meeting on Monday (April 13), with the funding destined for the city’s evacuation response plan.

“Specifically components related to evacuation route planning for established evacuation zones,” reads the report.

The current evacuation response plan in the city was drafted back in 2018.

“The Emergency Programs division is currently working to update the existing draft Evacuation Response Plan to align with the Emergency Disaster Management Act and associated regulations, with the end goal being a finalized Evacuation Response Plan,” reads the report.

“The scope of this work is planned to include evacuation zone specific plans, public notification templates and an overarching evacuation route plan for the entirety of the City of Prince George.”

The grant is being distributed through UBCM’s Community Emergency Preparedness Fund.
