Man survives grizzly bear attack in Vanderhoof

VANDERHOOF — A man was attacked by a grizzly bear on a rural property in the Vanderhoof area last night (April 13).

The Conservation Officer Service says at around 5 p.m. a man was walking his off-leash dogs on his farm property when he was attacked by the bear. He was able to scramble under a barbed wire fence and the bear took off.

The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries to his leg and received medical treatment in hospital.

Based on the location and the circumstances surrounding the attack, officers have determined the attack was defensive in nature and there was no continued threat to public safety.
