Fury on the Fraser brings Roller Derby back to the CN Centre
PRINCE GEORGE – The Rated PG Thrashers are preparing for their biggest matchups to date as they get set to host two top teams this weekend on the big stage of the CN Centre. Fury on the Fraser is the second roller derby spectacle hosted by the CN Centre following last years successful “Roller Derby Rocks the CN Centre”. This year they have a double header on tap that will see the Rated PG Thrashers welcome team Northern BC and a new Foe with more then bragging rights on the line.
“There are two teams coming up including the Eves of Destruction from Victoria. This is the furthest up we’ve had somebody come here and play us. Usually we go to Vancouver, the Lower Mainland and into the interior but this time they’re coming up to play us. We have the golden ax as one of the trophies this weekend and then we have the Golden Chainsaw as the other.” said Roller Derby Referee Alicia “Lockdown” Hogg.
Roller derby is played in two periods of 30 minutes and the rules are plentiful but for new fans of the sport there are ten people on the track at a time with five players on each team. One player from each team will have a star on their helmets indicating that they are a Jammer. The Jammer is the one who can score points and their goal is to get around the rest of the players. The jammer scores a point for each opposing blocker they lap while opponents try to stop them with full contact.
