RDFFG Area G Director Jerrilyn Kirk seeking re-election

Area G covers approximately 18,000 square kilometres and includes communities such as Bear Lake, Summit Lake, McLeod Lake and surrounding rural areas. Kirk said there has been significant activity throughout the region over the past four years, and she wants to continue helping move local priorities forward.

Among the accomplishments she highlighted is the growth of the Bear Lake Fire Department. Kirk praised local volunteers for stepping up to support emergency services in the community and helping ensure residents remain safe.

“They’re here to make sure that this community is safe,” she said of the department’s volunteers.

Kirk also pointed to the work of the Bear Lake Community Commission, a locally elected group that helps address day-to-day community needs. The commission is made up of residents elected during local government elections and focuses on issues ranging from community infrastructure to services that help keep the small community running smoothly.

“They deal with things from lampposts to garbage containers and all of those things that are so important to a small community,” Kirk said.

Looking ahead, Kirk said several major industrial and economic developments are either underway or being proposed in the area.

She noted the community has faced challenges, including the closure of the local mill, but said new opportunities are emerging through projects involving Trion Minerals, Defense Metals and ongoing work by Enbridge.

“We have a lot going on,” Kirk said. “I just really would like to keep going with those projects.”

If re-elected, Kirk said her focus will remain on supporting communities across Electoral Area G and ensuring residents have a strong voice at the regional district table as development and growth continue throughout the region.
