Student housing coming to downtown?
PRINCE GEORGE – It’s been a very long time since the words “student housing” have been uttered, but they were during Monday night’s Council meeting. And it’s being welcomed by Mayor Lyn Hall.
“It seems as if I have been working on this since I became Mayor.”
In fact, when Hall was elected, he struck two committees aimed at students. One was the Education Committee and the other was the Student Needs Committee. It was the latter that produced a White Paper, which identified transportation and housing at the top two issues impacting students.
“I think we have a sufficient amount [of housing] on campus,” says Ethan Fredeen, President of the Northern Undergraduate Student Society. “We have a lot more for first and second year housing needs students. We don’t really have any for mature students and that’s really what the issue is.”
