Inside the Nechako White Sturgeon Recovery Initiative in Vanderhoof, BC

One of British Columbia’s oldest and most unique species is getting a helping hand thanks to the Nechako White Sturgeon Recovery Initiative in Vanderhoof.

The program is dedicated to protecting and rebuilding the population of white sturgeon in the Nechako River, a species that has faced significant challenges over the years due to habitat changes and declining natural recruitment. Through research, monitoring and conservation efforts, the initiative is working to ensure these prehistoric fish remain part of the region’s ecosystem for generations to come.
