Nov 4, 2026 | 10:17 AM

MACKENZIE — Mackenzie RCMP are currently responding to a serious motor vehicle incident involving a bus on Highway 39 south of Mackenzie.

On November 4, 2026, officers were advised of a bus that had left the roadway south of Mackenzie.  Multiple injuries have been reported, including serious injuries. BCEHS says the incident took place in the 11300 block of Highway 39.

Mackenzie RCMP officers, BC Emergency Health Services, and Fire Rescue are on scene. Multiple ambulances have been requested, and an air ambulance has been tasked to assist.  Highway maintenance personnel are assisting with traffic management, and RCMP collision analysts have been requested to attend the scene.

At this early stage of the investigation, limited details are available. School District 57 Superintendent Jameel Aziz said in a short statement that bus involved in the incident “is not a school bus, but First Student has sent a bus to provide assistance.” In a Facebook post to parents and guardians, Mackenzie Secondary School says they “want to reassure everyone that all of our Mackenzie Secondary School students are safe. This incident does not involve any of our school buses.”

One of our school buses has been dispatched to the area to provide support and assistance; however, this bus is not involved in the incident.

Highway 39 south of Mackenzie is expected to remain closed for several hours while emergency personnel provide medical care and investigators examine the scene. DriveBC says there is a detour available through the Causeway and Mill road.

Northern Health put out a post on Facebook saying:

“Mackenzie and area residents are advised that Mackenzie and District Hospital has declared a Code Orange to support the response to a motor vehicle incident on Highway 39. We ask that area residents avoid the Mackenzie and District Hospital emergency department for all but life-threatening emergency needs at this time. For non-urgent care, please contact your primary care provider, call the NH Virtual Primary and Community Care Clinic at 1-844-645-7811 https://www.northernhealth.ca/…/digital…/virtual-clinic, or call HealthLink BC at 8-1-1 for non-emergency health information from nurses, dietitians, and pharmacists www.HealthLinkBC.ca . Patients with scheduled (non-urgent) procedures at Mackenzie and District Hospital will be contacted if their procedure will need to be rescheduled.”

“We ask the public to avoid the area and allow emergency personnel the space they need to safely respond to this incident,” says Cpl. Brett Urano, RCMP spokesperson. “Drivers should expect significant delays and are encouraged to check DriveBC before travelling.”

CKPG News is working to get more details on this incident and will provide updates as soon as they become available.
