Food insecurity deepens as Prince George charities face rising demand, fewer donations
PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. – The shelves are busy and so are the people at local organizations trying to keep them stocked.
Demand for food support continues to climb in Prince George, reflecting a national trend that has nearly one in three Canadians skipping meals or eating less because they cannot afford groceries.
The Salvation Army’s 2026 Canadian Poverty and Socioeconomic Analysis found 31 per cent of Canadians have skipped a meal or reduced its size because of grocery costs, up from 27 per cent in 2025.
